Krista & Matt: Wedding Gallery

A few weeks ago, I had a chance to shoot my first Colorado wedding with fellow photojournalist and good friend Justin Edmonds. Justin and I worked together as newspaper photographers in Chicago, and he is based in Denver now.

The wedding and reception took place at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO., which is apparently the hotel from The Shining. I started the day hanging out with Matt and the guys while they got ready. The day was filled with tons of emotion and great moments. The snow-capped mountains in the distance made for a stunning backdrop.

I’ve posted some of my favorites from the day below, but Justin has even more over on his blog.

Katie & Ron: Wedding Gallery

I usually only get to shoot about one winter weddings a year, so I always look forward to the opportunity. Katie & Ron were married a few days before Christmas at St. John Church & Student Center in East Lansing, Michigan. I wasn’t sure it was going to look like winter, but the season’s first snowfall started a few hours before the ceremony.

After the ceremony, we went across Grand River Avenue onto the Michigan State University campus to do some portraits in front of the Sparty statue and near Beaumont Tower. The reception was at Marriott Hotel in Downtown East Lansing. The night featured some friendly cake-smearing, a performance by Ron on acoustic guitar and some pretty intense dancing!

Hannah & Andrew: Wedding Gallery

After a great Twin Cities engagement session with Hannah & Andrew last spring, I was looking forward to heading back to Minneapolis for their wedding. I was blown away by architecture of the beautiful ceremony location, Mount Olive Lutheran Church in the midtown neighborhood.

After the ceremony, the bridal party headed to the riverfront for some photos at Guthrie Theater overlooking the Stone Arch Bridge and the Mississippi River. From there we walked up the hill at Gold Medal Park for a good view of the skyline. Hannah & Andrew timed it perfectly and we ran out of light as we were walking back to the parking lot.

The restaurant Max at The Hotel Minneapolis served as the reception location. After some really moving (and humorous) toasts and first dances, the rest of the kids got on the dance floor and tore it up. What a great party!

Meg & Trever: Wedding Gallery

Meg & Trever braved some serious prairie winds for their wedding and reception at Rustic Oaks farm in Moorhead, Minnesota (just across the Red River from Fargo, North Dakota). Meg’s veil looked awesome blowing in the wind! The day also included some beautiful details and some pretty adorable children.

What a great setting for a wedding, I’m really looking forward to putting these photos together for their book!

New for 2012: The Photobooth

I’m very excited to offer couples a new option for 2012 – The Photobooth! I gave this setup a few test runs over the past year, including at Cara & Justin’s Wedding and it’s been a huge hit!

Here’s how it works: guests step on a foot switch that triggers a camera and flash. The photo displays on an iPad mounted directly under the camera. If your venue has television screens or a projector, we can even show the photos on those displays. It’s a ton of fun for your guests, plus you get photos of everyone (including your photographer!)

We can add the Photobooth to any package, even if you’ve already booked your wedding.

Cara & Justin: Wedding Gallery

Cara & Justin were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Chesaning, Mich. After the ceremony, I rode the trolly with the wedding party over to Frankenmuth (with a few stops for photos and drinks along the way : )

When we got to Frankenmuth, we stopped at the covered bridge and took a little walk along the river. The reception was at an awesome brewery on Main Street provided a great venue for toasts, dinner and dancing.

Monica & Daniel: Wedding Gallery

Monica & Daniel’s wedding day was full of style, awesome details and a lot of love. I got to hang out with everyone as they got ready, and even learned a new board game. The ceremony took place in in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood at St. John Berchmans Church.

After the ceremony, we headed to Lincoln Park for portraits. We ducked inside the Lincoln Park Conservatory until a few rain clouds passed. The day finished with an awesome celebration at Sutton Place Hotel.

Kinzie & Donnie: Engagement Session

I travelled to Champaign, Illinois a few weeks ago for Kinzie & Donnie’s engagement session. I was greeted by a tasty bowl of quinoa, tea and two friendly cats. After chatting for a bit and scouting their ceremony venue, we kicked off the shoot at their apartment.

From there, we headed onto the University of Illinois campus and found some awesome light inside the Krannert Center for Performing Arts. Then we went to Meadowbrook Park, which happens to be where Kinzie asked Donnie to marry her. We finished our shoot with a stop at the video rental store where the couple met.

After a great shoot and an epic Sunday family dinner, I’m really looking forward to Kinzie & Donnie’s wedding next May!

Tiffany & Blake were married last month in Frankenmuth, Mich. Frankenmuth is a cute little Bavarian town with lots of shops along its busy main street. Their ceremony was at the historic Fischer Hall. Afterward we headed out for portraits around town and stumbled upon a beautiful park. We finished the day at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth.
