The Skyline Loft is one of two places at the venue to have a Bridgeport Art Center wedding. I love the exposed brick and timber loft style, and that’s also why Susan & Blake picked it.
I started the morning with Susan while she got ready at her condo with her bridesmaids and mother. Justin started the morning with Blake and the guys at Westin River North. After everyone was finished getting ready and Susan was in her dress, Blake came upstairs to their place for a first in their home. Their brick & timber loft fit the theme of the day perfectly and the huge windows made for a great look.
Susan & Blake really wanted to do portraits out near museum campus and Adler Planetarium, but the forecast was calling for 30+ mph winds. So we headed to one of my favorite little portrait spots, Lakeshore East. It’s surrounded by buildings which provide a good wind blocker. We were able to get all the group portraits done there, but Susan & Blake wouldn’t be deterred by the wind so we headed out to Adler!
I knew from their Adler Planetarium engagement session that Susan & Blake were rockstars, but I was still pumped that they were willing to battle the wind for some great portraits with the iconic Chicago skyline. We even had a little time when we arrived at Bridgeport Art Center to get a few more photos before the ceremony.
The Skyline Loft space at Bridgeport Art Center was decorated beautifully (for both the ceremony and reception) and the skylights provided beautiful soft light for the ceremony. Susan & Blake’s friends, Ann and Haseeb, officiated the ceremony. I’m seeing more and more weddings officiated by friends and family. It’s really great to see. Ann and Haseeb were able to share personal stories and I could tell they really took the responsibility seriously, because they did a tremendous job.
After the cocktail hour, Blake and Susan were introduced and then it was time for toasts. Susan’s father, opened with a few words then her maid of honor, Amy, and Blake’s brothers shared a few funny stories as well. After toasts, it was time for first dances. And before the dance floor officially opened up, there was a few rounds of Irish dancing lessons.
Justin and I had a great time with Susan & Blake (and everyone else) all day. You guys are awesome, thanks again for letting us be part of your day!
