It’s always an honor to be asked to document a couple’s wedding day, but when a couple entrusts me to travel across the country to a remote location based on my work and reputation it’s extra special!
I traveled to California’s Redwood forests, about three hours north of San Francisco, for Zan & Jonas’ wedding at Mendocino Woodlands Camp.
For destination weddings, I like to make sure I’m at the site at least a day before the actual wedding. In this case, my second photographer Beck Diefenbach, and I met up with Zan & Jonas near downtown Mendocino for a day before portrait shoot on the coast. What a fun way to kickoff the weekend!
The next morning Zan & Jonas got ready in their cabin and we headed over to the main ceremony site. The Redwoods provided an amazing cathedral-like venue. Beck and I had to work to find the best light, but it was totally worth it.
After the ceremony, Zan & Jonas gathered everybody for an aerial straps performance. I’ve seen some impressive choreographed first dances, but this was pretty awesome. Some of their other circus friends also performed and there was even a little juggling.
We were able to steal a few minutes away for portraits throughout the evening. The portrait of Zan & Jonas laughing in the Redwood Tree was probably my favorite of the weekend.
From there, we headed into the main cabin for dinner, toasts and a surprise musical performance. After clearing the tables and a wardrobe change, it was time for dancing. Zan & Jonas kicked things off with their first dance before Andy Wilson led the guests in a barnyard-style dance party.
Beck and I truly enjoyed our weekend in the Redwoods. Zan & Jonas gave us so many great moments and made us feel like part of their family. Thank you so much for trusting us to document your Mendocino Woodlands Camp wedding!
