While I’m based in Chicago, I end traveling out of state for around half of my weddings each year. It’s always great to shoot at new locations so I was very excited when Katie & Kevin asked me to shoot their Oakhurst Country Club wedding photos in Clarkston, Michigan. Once again Denver’s best wedding photographer, Justin Edmonds, flew in to second shoot with me.
Both Katie and Kevin got ready at a hotel just down the road in Auburn Hills, so that’s where Justin and I started our day – myself with Katie and the ladies and Justin was with Kevin and the guys.
We coordinated our travel so that Katie arrived after Kevin for the first look. The course’s beautiful coniferous forest was an amazing setting. After a walk around the grounds for some portraits and the family groups it was time for the ceremony.
We had great weather for the outdoor ceremony. I mean, just check out those big puffy cumulus clouds and the perfect blue sky! Katie waiting with her dad under the rainbow-colored umbrella made for one my favorite pictures this year. Rev. Brian Tuttle officiated and I loved the guests blowing bubbles during the kiss and as he announced Katie & Kevin as husband and wife.
After dinner and toasts we snuck back into the woods during “golden hour” for a few more Oakhurst Country Club Wedding Photos in the pine forest. Seriously, we could shoot in those trees forever – especially in that light!
The huge dining room and windows provided an exceptional reception location and the view from the balcony made a for a killer wide angle first dance photo. Everyone had a great time on the dance floor and we finished the night with Katie & Kevin sharing another dance.
Thanks again Katie & Kevin! I enjoyed our Montrose Beach Engagement Session in Chicago and Justin and I had a great time in Michigan with you and your families.
