I have to say I haven’t photographed a wedding quite like Laura and Paul’s at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For one, I don’t get a chance to shoot in Milwaukee all that often, but I always love it. The city always feels such a more manageable size than Chicago. When I first heard Laura and Paul’s venue was a “coffee shop” I was intrigued. But Anodyne is unlike any coffee shop I’ve been to. It’s a huge space with a great natural light for a ceremony and a great stage for a band during the reception.
Laura was incredibly chill during her hair & makeup time and I loved Iron Horse Hotel. It was perfectly located next to the coffee shop and the library downstairs was a cozy little spot for a first look.
After first look we headed to Lakeshore State Park and the Historic Third Ward for portraits together. Special thanks to Laura’s brother Matt, for chauffeuring! We then had time for family groups outside the venue with the classic cream city brick as our backdrop.
Clayton was an amazing officiant, keeping everyone laughing, especially Laura and Paul. I loved shooting their reactions!
During dinner, Laura and Paul thanked their guests then a microphone made its way around the room for some impromptu toasts. Also, shout out to their friend Phil who played an eclectic music set that kept everyone entertained.
A surprise horse-drawn carriage appeared as dinner was winding down. Laura and Paul made their way around the block and I think a few wedding guests took trips as well.
After desert it was time for dancing. The blue stage lighting was a perfect atmosphere for their first dances.
