Kristin and Nick were married at Lionsgate Event Center in an outdoor ceremony. Regular followers will know that I shoot almost half of my weddings every year in Colorado – usually as a second shooter with Justin. But occasionally I get to work with a Wasabi couple in the Rocky Mountain region.
As a former photojournalist herself, Kristin was a dream to work with. Her and Nick both totally trusted our vision and were super gracious as we pulled them away for a few evening portraits when the light was too good to miss.
The morning featured a unique hair & makeup station inside a custom Airstream trailer – called, creatively, the Hairstream. With wonderful light and a great group of professionals working inside it was a great way to start the morning. After the beauty team was finished, we headed into the bridal suite to put on the dress with Kristin’s sisters and her mom. In addition to the bridesmaids, Kristin invited some close friends into the suite for a pre-ceremony toast.
Justin spent the morning with guys upstairs where they were doing typical guy stuff – drinking whiskey, playing pool, blowing up inflatable guitars… More on that later.
First look was downstairs in the garden which had a great ivy background. Justin made a perfect frame of Kristin as she “framed up” a mental shot of Nick’s face after they saw each other. Capturing unique little moments like that is one of the best things about wedding photography.
After shooting all the family formal groups, it was time for the outdoor ceremony in the Gatehouse Garden space. The threatening rain clouds just held off long enough for the ‘I do’s’ and the walk back down the aisle. We were able to sneak the couple away a few times during cocktail hour and the light during golden hour was incredible.
We heard some beautiful toasts from the fathers and the wedding party before it was time to dance. After first dances, those inflatable guitars I mentioned made their way to dance floor and everyone jammed out. Definitely a fun way to get the party started.
Kristin and Nick – thank you so much for letting us be there to document your wedding and be part of your celebration. It was truly an honor!
