Katie and Aaron were married at Mount Vernon Inn outside of Alexandria, Virginia.
One of my favorite aspects of my work as a wedding photographer (and that I often miss about my newspaper work) is being able to develop relationships with families. I love being invited into people’s lives and trusted to document their important memories and its extra special when I get to work with a family again. So I was thrilled when Katie contacted me about her Virginia wedding. Kelly and Elliott’s Lyric Opera House wedding in Chicago was one of the most memorable weddings I’ve been to so I was thrilled to be working Katie and Aaron.
Justin and I traveled to Alexandria, Virginia. It was a in the middle of the busiest month (of the busiest year) of our careers. The change in scenery was inspiring to say the least. It’s amazing how much different some of the historical places on the east coast can feel compared to Chicago.
We spent the day before scouting downtown Alexandria and had a game plan for portraits that included a walk through the downtown historical district and a stop at Jones Point Park. We also found a great first look spot around the corner from the hotel where the couple’s dog, Indy, met us for some portrait time as well!
The chuppah at Mount Vernon Inn was one of the most beautiful that I’ve seen. I loved the moss on the ground with the fall leaves. After the ceremony, we heard some great toasts – Aaron’s brother, Matt might have been my favorite best man speech of the year.
The dance floor opened with the traditional first dances and Katie and Aaron were lifted into the air during the Hora, which is always a highlight.
