As you probably know by now, Chicago loft weddings are my favorite venues to work at in the city and I’m always excited for a new location in that genre. Chelsea and Ori’s Room 1520 wedding was my first chance to shoot at this beautiful, chic white loft space.
The morning started with both Chelsea and Ori getting ready at Raffaello Hotel. I started with the ladies while Justin was with the guys. Raffaello Hotel is a great choice for getting ready. The suites are good size for the city with great window light. But the biggest bonus is Drumbar, located on the top floor of the hotel. We did a first look on one of the two rooftop patios and made some awesome Drumbar wedding photos inside while we waited for a rain cloud to pass.
From the hotel, we made stops at the Chicago Theatre and LaSalle Street Bridge for portraits on the way to the venue as well. We managed to get quite a bit done in between the rain spells.
The couple’s friend David did a wonderful job with the ceremony – a perfect mix of sincerity and laughter. When the ceremony finished, we took a quick peek outside to find an amazing rainbow so we quickly brought Chelsea and Ori up to the roof even though it was still raining a little, it was totally worth it. It’s not every day you get to shoot on a rooftop with a rainbow across the Chicago skyline!
One of the amazing things about a “white box” venue like Room 1520 is how dramatically it can be transformed with some candles and uplighting. The room looked awesome for the reception, which kicked off with some great toasts…and a pretty amazing pan flute solo of the Titanic theme song.
The dance floor started off mild with the first dances but The Walk-Ins brought the fire and quickly turned into one of the craziest parties we’ve seen. Between the serenading musical performances by Ori and his friends or the guy limboing with a baby strapped to his chest, this was definitely a wild night!
Thanks to Chelsea and Ori for being awesome and trusting us to document your day. Justin and I had an amazing time at your Room 1520 wedding.
