Tanja and Miljan were married at St. George Serbian Orthodox in East Chicago, Indiana. I loved Daniela & Draz’s wedding last year, so I was excited for another one when Tanja & Miljan reached out about their day.
I started the morning with Tanja and her sisters getting ready at her home. Justin started with Miljan at his home. Tanja and Miljan each had their own Skup (celebration) happening at their respective homes.
After Tanja and Miljan were dressed and ready, Miljan’s group traveled to meet Tanja and “negotiate” for the opportunity to marry with her family members. Tanja’s family jokingly sent out her younger sister as a joke first. There was more celebrating after the couple came together at Tanja’s Skup with dancing and food.
From there we traveled to East Chicago for the ceremony. St. George offered an intimate space as everyone stood. It’s always fun to see some of the specific rituals that I don’t get to see very often. Tanja and Miljan exited the church to everyone throwing rice – I think I’m still finding it in my lens pouches.
After the ceremony we had time for some portraits with the couple outside of the reception space with the gazebo and greenery. The reception kicked off with some great toasts. Tanja & Miljan then shared their first dance before the dance floor opened with traditional Serbian musicians including an accordion. The live music provided a great energy and so much fun!
Thanks again to Tanja and Miljan for sharing your day with us and inviting us into your homes to document your beautiful wedding!
